Artist Talk: Nancy Downes

8 April, 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

South Australian artist Nancy Downes engages in an artist talk to accompany her exhibition, Between/Beyond. Come along to hear the artist elaborate on the themes of grief, as well as the creative techniques and processes undertaken for her consuming installations.

About the artist

Nancy Downes specialises in installation, sculpture and painting. She graduated with First Class Honours from Adelaide Central School of Art in 2015, where she was also named the recipient of the 2015 Tracey Whiting Award for Outstanding Achievement in the Bachelor of Visual Art (Hons). Downes uses tactile materials with light and space to create immersive, enveloping works. The imagery and materiality in her work provides cues toward the body, and investigates registers of human phenomena. She is interested in the many layers that compose humans, and seeks to trace affect through figurative and psychological layers, and the gestures that bind them.

Downes is a member of Switchboard Studios in Norwood, S.A. and will be involved in several interstate exhibitions, as well as an artist residency in Japan, throughout 2017.

Between/Beyond opens Friday 7 April, 6pm
Exhibition runs 8 – 23 April
