In response to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, and for the safety and health of our community, the Paper Mountain gallery and event spaces will be closed for the foreseeable future.
Our Forward Bound program has currently been delayed until a safer time. In the event that we are required to cancel it completely, we are still committed to paying the artists involved. If they wish, studio artists are still able to access the space, but we highly recommend that everyone follow current medical advice, and work from home as much as possible.
We are committed to providing for our creative communities and patrons, but our duty of care is to their lives, and the lives of those close to them.
We are devastated – we were due to start our 2020 programming, which was to herald a new direction for Paper Mountain with a new and passionate volunteer team. This is not a decision that we have taken lightly. As an artist-run initiative, this has a large impact on our financial viability, but we would rather take that hit than see any members of our community suffer ill health.
To all the volunteers who have put in hard work into our organisation, to all the artists who have donated work, to all our supporters and patrons, we have not forgotten you, and we will keep working on delivering an alternative online program – watch this space. We will continue to work to keep our communities alive, thriving, creating and sharing during this time. We will try our best to be of good service to our communities, to each other, to ongoing joy and connection.
Please stay safe, everyone, and keep hope.
